What is Wi-Fi Calling?
Wi-Fi Calling lets you make and receive mobile calls and text messages using a Wi-Fi connection instead of the mobile network. It’s especially handy if you have patchy mobile coverage indoors but a strong internet connection.
Do I need a special app?
No – Wi-Fi Calling works through your phone’s standard dialer and messaging apps. You simply turn it on in your phone’s settings.
Which phones support Wi-Fi Calling?
Most recent smartphones support Wi-Fi Calling. If your device is from the last 3–4 years, chances are it’s compatible.
• On iPhone: iPhone 6 or newer.
• On Android: Samsung, Google Pixel, Oppo, Motorola, and most newer models.
(Check your device settings for “Wi-Fi Calling” to confirm.)
How do I turn on Wi-Fi Calling?
• iPhone: Settings → Mobile → Wi-Fi Calling → Toggle ON.
• Android (Samsung example): Phone app → More (3 dots) → Settings → Wi-Fi Calling → Toggle ON.
Your phone may ask you to confirm your emergency address for 000 calls.
Does Wi-Fi Calling cost extra?
No – calls and texts are charged as if you were on the mobile network, according to your WTCO mobile plan. There are no extra fees for using Wi-Fi Calling.
Can I use Wi-Fi Calling overseas?
Yes – if Wi-Fi Calling is enabled and you’re connected to Wi-Fi overseas, calls to Australian numbers will be charged at your standard plan rates.
✅ Important: Before you travel overseas, you’ll need to contact WTCO to activate International Roaming on your service. This ensures your mobile works when you’re not on Wi-Fi.
We also recommend adding an International Travel Pack to keep roaming costs predictable. Travel Packs give you:
• Daily data allowance while overseas
• Calls and texts back to Australia included
• Flat daily fee (instead of unpredictable roaming charges)
What happens if my Wi-Fi drops out?
Your phone will automatically switch back to the mobile network if coverage is available, so your call won’t necessarily drop.
Is Wi-Fi Calling secure?
Yes – Wi-Fi Calling uses the same level of encryption as calls made over the mobile network.
